A+ has introduced an innovative, sensitive, effective cleaning system to its armoury known as the DOFF & DORC system compelling us to new levels in building conservation restoration and paint removal.
DOFF Cleaning & Stone/Brickwork Restoration
This system is the natural answer for use in busy environments, causing minimal disruption in public places, popular with the National Trust and English Heritage projects as no chemicals are used in the DOFF cleaning process. The DOFF system compliments the JOS system using a unique combination of high heat and pressure.
It is the natural answer to the removal of unwanted matter on surface coatings which have become bonded to the masonry and other substrates over time, this is achieved without eroding the underlying surface. Inappropriate cleaning is a major cause of damage to historic type masonry buildings, while pressure washing may be appropriate in some cases, this can also be very destructive to various historic masonry surfaces, such as some Portland stone, brick, architectural terra cotta, cast stone, concrete and concrete block and limestone.
This system is unlike any other steam system. It can genuinely achieve 150oC at the nozzle end. The operator is able to vary the temperature and pressure to remove many types of paint or biological matter.
The steam/superheated water will not only remove moss, algae, fungi and other biological matter but will also kill off the spores so that there is no need to use a chemical biocide either in the removal or as a protection against further biological activity. When the temperature in the system is high the pressure on the surface being cleaned is very gentle and the volume of water is low. The surface is therefore not saturated and will be dry within minutes.
With this in mind it has been used on structures such as Westminster Abbey, many Cathedrals (including Canterbury, Salisbury, Lincoln, Exeter, Peterborough), Oxford and Cambridge Colleges, Royal Palaces, The Tower of London, St Pancras Station (including the Midland Hotel) and the Albert Memorial.
Due to the constant high heat the DOFF machine produces it is also ideal in the removal of graffiti & chewing gum.
